Step 1
Know You’re Enough
It may seem that supermodels, actors and public figures have it all together, but Marisa knows from her therapy experience that they suffer from the very same ailment that an unsuccessful person or adolescent might feel: they feel they’re not enough. As Marisa explains, “When you feel you’re not enough, there’s not enough accolades, business success, promotion, food, alcohol or chocolate to make you feel better. But when you know within that you’re enough, you don’t need an excess of anything.” Knowing you’re enough inspires to achieve more or do better, and feeling we are not enough is the common denominator of most emotional problems in a workplace.
Step 2
Don’t Let In Destructive Criticism
Criticism is a reality of daily life, whether you’re a highly public figure or an average Jane. However, some people tend to be far more affected by the opinions of others than others, so much so that they can feel crippled by external judgments and unable to find success. Marisa not only explains why the decision to deflect negative criticism is essential to achieving any form of success, but she also details to her audiences just how to go about “not letting it in”—whether it comes from a boss, co-worker, or complete stranger. Studies show that harsh, hurtful, critical words are a key factor in causing depression. Self-criticism contributes to this and my talk includes how to stop criticising yourself.
Step 3
Do Let In Praise, And Praise Yourself
Do Let In Praise, And Praise Yourself
Research shows that being the recipient of frequent and genuine praise is a large determinant of self-esteem and happiness, but what few people realize is that you don’t have to wait for people to notice and praise you, you can benefit immediately by praising yourself.
Step 4
Do What You Hate To Get To Your Goals
People who naturally success, not only do the things you hate to get to where they want to be, they do the things they hate first. Marisa tells some fascinating and entertaining client stories of how her most successful clients quite naturally do this and how others have learnt to do it in order to achieve the very same success and shows you how you can do it too.
Step 5
Take Action Every Day
Take steps everyday towards your success. A few of Marisa’s clients who are Olympic athletes don’t train on Christmas Day, they decided to train twice on Christmas Day. Because if you take action everyday in the direction of your goals, it gears you towards phenomenal success (of course you can have days off because once you’ve adapted this habit, it changes your perception of yourself).
Step 6
Nobody can reject you without your permission
Don’t take rejection personally because nobody can reject you without your permission. Overnight successors tend to come up against huge rejection, the only difference is that they don’t let it stop them.
Step 7
It moves you towards pleasure and away from pain
When you use language like, “My workload is killing me”, or “I’m dying under this pressure”. When you say things like, “I’m dreading to do this presentation”, or “I hate sales pitches”, your mind can only link pain to those images and will do anything to move you away from it, including making you ill. When you learn to use pleasurable words such as “excited” instead of “nervous”, your mind will move you towards it.
Step 8
Make the familiar unfamiliar and the unfamiliar familiar
One of the hardest things about the mind is that it loves what is familiar, and will move towards what is familiar whether that is good or bad, positive or negative, hurtful or not. The most effective way to change this is to make what is familiar i.e. never getting promotion or praise unfamiliar and to make what’s unfamiliar i.e. feeling loved, radiating confidence familiar. Marisa gives you specific techniques to do this and to make it last.
Step 9
Your Pictures In Your Head And The Words You Says To Yourself
The way you feel about anything is down to two things: the pictures you make in your head and the words you say to yourself. When you make the pictures and words positive, it changes the way you feel about anything and rapidly move you towards success.
Delay gratification
In amongst these nine steps…
Marisa also teaches how to delay gratification and that your mind will do exactly what you think it wants it to do. When you learn how to communicate with your mind in a very specific way so it understands with clarity what you want and require of yourself, your mind will give that to you, but this is very dependent on whether you can communicate with your mind in a specific way, using particular words and images, and Marisa will teach you what these words and images are. After learning and implementing these nine steps, the feedback she gets is that her audience feel so dramatically better about themselves that this has a positive effect on how they perform as employees or employers, as parents, as partners, their communication skills, their self-esteem, sense of self-worth and empathy are all improved permanently.
